VN News: Sharin Fandics released, Narcissu 2nd side soon to be released

Just catching up on some of the news in the past month or so.

The fandisc of that sunflower game (Sharin no Kuni) now has a partial ENG Translation.

The main content of the fandisc, the Houzuki route, was translated.

I actually feel a little iffy about posting this news, because... the patch is stand alone.

That's right, tlwiki is supporting piracy? Tisk, tisk, I think of all people tlwiki should know how important it is not to treat VN devs like a cum dump.

And what is this, the height of arrogance calling themselves the "Sunflower Devs". Actual developers made this game, and they wouldn't all be punkass pirates. It really shouldn't matter whether the fandisc is easy to buy or not, it's the principle of the thing.

On much better news,

Narcissu 2nd side eng translation, the prequel to that freeware game we all know and love, naturally, Narcissu, should be coming out soon.

Hurray.

Since both Narcissu vns are licensed oh so liberally, expect to see them from us soon as well.

Narcissu 2nd side OP in the meanwhile:

I'm sorry, but do you know that the translation only encompasses about ~25% of the entire fandisk? (The Houzuki Scenario which is 330838 bytes out of the total 1142681 bytes.)
That's the reason of the standalone, simply because the translator team felt that people would feel ripped-off for buying the entire fandisk, then finding out how most of the game is untranslated.
Additionally as you can see it on the site, if you already imported/planned to import the fandisk, or you are adamant against standalones as a whole, there's a normal ordinary patch there, which translates the relevant scenario.
Believe it or not, this practice usually happens within eroge translations. Mizuiro also had a standalone translation only consisting of one ark/route.

Moreover it'd be very kind of you not to call everyone involved with TLWiki as someone supporting piracy. This translation was done by four people, and the site itself has around 50+ contributors (on 10-15 projects), and a very large percentage of those contributors had no role whatsoever in Sharin's Houzuki arc, and thus it'd be unjust against them.

I understand that the Houzuki route is not the whole fandisk, but that is far from being a valid justification for piracy. It's like saying, oh the iPhone doesn't support flash, so if I pay full price I would feel ripped off. Hence I should pirate it. That does not make any sense.

OK, I disagree with this practice though. It sounds like an excuse to justify piracy...

I said TLWiki, the website, not everyone who contributes there. The owner of the site surely knows what's going on. If you're an unrelated contributor, I don't mean you. I apologize, no offense intended.

Some concluding remarks:
The western market already gets little to no respect from the Japanese as it is. Translators, being so important in the community, should be doing their damnest to set the correct example, lead people to feed back into the Japanese VN making ecosystem, rather than increase our reputation as not being a worthwhile market.

Hey, guess what. Why don't you try accessing Akabeesoft2's website and see how much they care about gaijin buying their games?

ABS2 clearly has no desire for sales originating from the western fanbase, so I'm glad to indulge them on that one!

Also, izmos is correct regarding the other half of our reasoning; it's not really fair to expect anyone to buy a game you only translated 25% of. I did, in fact, provide a link on the project page to buy the game from Erogeshop if anyone was still so inclined. Given that ABS2's management consists of ignorant xenophobes, though, I don't know who the hell would want to buy their games!

Also, the name "Sunflower Devs" is a bad parody of "KS Devs." Your insinuation that it is instead an expression of our utmost arrogance, an attempt to really show those eroge companies what's for, falls beyond the realm of laughable and into the realm of pathetic.

P.S.: You are not an eroge translator. Do not presume to tell those of us who actually care about the medium and work our asses off to bring these games to you (the Sharin project in its entirety took over 300 hours) how we can and cannot distribute our translations. Exposing Looseboy's work to a wider audience pays him far more respect than a few thousand more dollars going to ABS2 ever could.
